What are the vitamins for Covid-19 patients who are self-isolating? page all

KOMPAS.com – Covid-19 patients who are self-isolating must still take medicine and vitamins to increase their immune system.

So, what vitamins should Covid-19 patients take during self-isolation?

For Covid-19 positive people who must undergo self-isolation, in addition to taking medicine from a doctor, they also need adequate vitamin intake.

The goal is that the body’s immune system during infection with the corona virus can recover quickly.

Internal Medicine Specialist at Primaya Hospital Pasar Kemis, Dr. Kiki Maharani, SpPD, said that the vitamins that need to be consumed must be adjusted to the body’s needs.

“If you only anticipate, then vitamin C and vitamin D are enough. However, if (the Covid-19 patient) has experienced self-isolation, then more vitamins are needed, “explained Dr. Kiki to Kompas.com, Saturday (26/6/2021).

Basically, the types of vitamins that the body needs, both in ordinary people and those infected with Covid-19 are the same.

“Vitamins for self-isolation are actually antioxidants. Such as vitamin C, vitamin D, or vitamin E, but still adjusted to the needs of our bodies, “said Dr. Kiki.

Although the types of vitamins are the same, for Covid-19 patients or those who are positive for Covid-19 and are self-isolating, the doses of vitamins consumed are much different.

Dr. Kiki revealed that in ordinary people, to meet daily vitamin needs, for example a dose of vitamin C, 1 time 500 mg is enough.

“But vitamins for Covid-19 patients, the need for vitamin C, the dose can be 2 times 500 mg, or vitamin D which is 1000 IU. So only the dosage is different,” explained Dr. Kiki.

Probiotics during self-isolation

Not only vitamins that the body needs, especially for Covid-19 patients who are undergoing self-isolation.

Dr. Kiki revealed that apart from vitamins, probiotics are also important for the recovery of Covid-19 patients who are undergoing self-isolation.

“Probiotics are indispensable for people who are self-isolating,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr. Kiki explained that prebiotics work on the intestines.

The corona virus that causes Covid-19 is not only spread in the form of aerosols in the air, but can also contaminate food.

“So when we eat, our food is exposed to the virus, then the virus can enter the digestive tract. That’s why sometimes (positive Covid-19 people) there are nausea or vomiting, even diarrhea, “explained Dr. Kiki.

Therefore, during self-isolation, adequate vitamin C and vitamin D, or prebiotics, are very important in restoring the immune system.

“Prebiotics are very necessary to maintain our intestinal flora from infections that can be caused by the Covid-19 virus,” added Dr. Kiki.
