Key West artists Katie and Garth Holtkamp did not ask to be featured in the high-end Vineyard Vine clothing catalog. They don’t answer calls to artists, or send their art, or their Florida Keys lifestyle stories, to clothing companies or their marketing people.
But the company that brothers Ian and Shep Murray launched around their beloved summer island – Martha’s Vineyards – found its way to the Florida Keys last March.
Vineyard Vine started selling silk ties with colorful island motifs. But it has since expanded to include all manner of swimwear, shirts, shorts, dresses and accessories.
“I really don’t know how they found us, but they contacted me and I had a virtual call with one of the copywriters and creative directors,” said Key West artist and art teacher Katie Holtkamp, whose colorful abstract painting is now for sale. . in Green Pineapple and on commission basis. “The thing is their catalog is supposed to feature ‘A Day in an Artist’s Life’ and their motto is, ‘Every day should be fun.’”
The summer 2021 catalog highlights the three Florida Keys families as a whole, each of their pages marked with the “Really Good People” logo. A Really Good Life.”
The two-page Holtkamps spread features Katie, Garth, daughter Greta, 9, and labradoodle Cleo, 1. Billy Kearins, who founded the “creative store” known as BEACH, is also seen, along with the father-daughter fishing team of Captain Gary Skrobeck and Skip. Paxton in Islamorada.
Vineyard Vine sent photography, video and wardrobe crews and stylists, and gave gift cards to featured families to order Vineyard Vine outfits for photo shoots and to keep, says Katie Holtkamp.
“They shot us right here at home, and then we went to Opal Key Resort, where they set up the whole room with a stylist,” he said. “We walked around Fort Zach. I brought some of my art with me and we walked through the Truman Annex while they shot some videos. Then we all had lunch at Five Brothers. It was a fun day.”

The summer catalog showcases the Florida Keys lifestyle and the people who live it every day.
The company’s founding brothers write on their website, “We joke about it now, but we’ll wait nine months to live the ‘good life’ for three months at the Vineyard with our friends and family. We were in a band, we started a business, and we put together what we made to buy the best old boat we could find, so we could get out into the water, go fishing and escape.
“In 1998, we were stuck behind a desk in a job we didn’t like, and we were miserable. So, we stopped. We threw out business suits for swimsuits, pulled out our wisdom teeth while we still had coverage and signed up for every credit card we could. That same day, within 10 minutes of each other, we quit our jobs, grabbed a drink and started pursuing the American dream.
“It’s been 20 years now – and what a journey. We’re in a big new office, we’ve expanded across the country, we’ve got a new golf team, we’re the Official Kentucky Derby Style… and we sell more than ties. From technical gear to our real silks, we have everything you need to get out there and live the good life.”
