Matrix 4 is an upcoming sci-fi action film that will continue the story of Neo’s adventures in the virtual world of the Matrix. In the previous three films, Neo (Keanu Reevesr) is always accompanied by Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) in his mission to free humanity from the Matrix. While the characters Neo and Trinity return to the film Matrix 4, Actor Laurence Fishburne confirmed that he was not involved in the fourth film The Matrix. This makes fans wonder what the fate of the character Morpheus in the film with the official title will be Matrix Awakening this?
Morpheus plays an important role in the first trilogy Matrix, he is the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar hovercraft and the one who freed Thomas A. Anderson aka Neo from the Matrix in the movie Matrix (1999). In the second film entitled Matrix Reload (2003) he tried to convince all hovercraft crews to wait for contact from Oracle. Then in the third film entitled Matrix Revolution (2003) A desperate Morpheus, trying to stay true to his mission with Neo, convinces himself that the City of Zion can still be saved.
While the character is not shown to be completely dead in the third film, Morpheus reappears in the game. Online Matrix. In the game, Morpheus’ patience in fighting the machines runs out, he then launches a terrorist attack throughout the Matrix. Even Morpheus planted his own bomb and ended up ‘dead’ because he was shot by a mysterious masked man. Interestingly, however, it seems that Morpheus didn’t really disappear in matrix rise, because it looks like an actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II played a version of himself when he was younger.
First trailer Matrix Awakening which was just released a few hours ago, features a lot of interesting things that are very closely related to the previous trilogy, such as a black cat, a white rabbit tattoo, and Neo’s fight against Morpheus at the dojo. While Morpheus looks younger this time, many have questioned why all this happened, including why Neo has forgotten all his memories with him and Trinity. It’s possible that the Matrix engine has been reset and made everything back to a younger version, except for Neo and Trinity.
At the end of the third film, the war between humans and machines is supposed to end because of Heroic Neo’s sacrifice, but it’s possible that the machine betrays again and starts resetting the machine to restart the war. Neo seems to have had his memory removed on purpose to keep him from getting involved in war again, and actor therapist Neil Patrick Harris’ character is a machine agent who keeps giving Neo blue pills to keep him from remembering who he is. A younger version of Morpheus then notices it and tries to remind Neo by showing him old memories.
Either way, it seems that director Lana Wachowski did choose not to leave the three main characters in the franchise, albeit in strange and implausible ways. It remains to be seen whether the theory is correct this time or not, what is clear is that the character Morpheus will return but not by actor Laurence Fishburne, but by new actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Whoever it is, we’ll see what happens later Matrix Awakening which is scheduled for release on December 22, 2021.
