Just 13 minutes ago, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck near Akita, Akita Shi, Japan. The shock was recorded on Wednesday evening 30 June 2021 at 22:18 local time, at an intermediate depth of 131.3 km below the surface.
The incident was proposed by the Japan National Research Institute for Earth Sciences and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the first seismological agency to report on it.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a 5.0 magnitude earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) with a magnitude of 5.0, and the Center for European-Mediterranean Seismology (EMSC) with a magnitude of 5.0.
