Unfortunately, after his appearance in the film, the Marvel villain played by Tim Roth seemed to just disappear in the MCU.
However, in MCU Phase 4, Abomination is finally ready return after more than 10 years of not appearing in the film. Yep, Marvel villains will definitely be back in the movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and can already be seen in the trailer. Not only that, Abomination is also rumored to be appearing in the series He’s Hulk future and has an important role.
Well, to welcome returnAbominations in the MCU, Check out some facts about Marvel villains below!
1. Created as a character who can defeat the Hulk
Abomination is a character created by Stan Lee and Gil Kane in 1967 and made his debut through comics Stories to Marvel #90. From the start, Stan Lee had intended to create Abomination as a figure who could defeat the Hulk, who has become Marvel’s strongest character since 1962. So, Stan Lee purposely made Abomination have a much larger size than the Hulk when he debuted.
Before becoming Abomination, this Marvel villain is told as a KGB agent who becomes a giant monster that is exposed to large amounts of gamma radiation. In his first appearance in the comics, he also has a larger form and has more powerful powers than the Hulk. This is what then allowed him to immediately defeat the Hulk as Stan Lee wanted when he created it.
2. Has Many Differences with Hulk
As discussed earlier, Abomination was created after Emil Blonsky was exposed to radiation which also created the Hulk figure. Although said to be twice as strong as the Hulk, in the continuation of the comic version, Abomination is said to have abilities that are quite on par with the Hulk. However, he actually still has some differences with the Hulk.
The biggest difference is the fact that Emil Blonsky doesn’t have the ability to return to his human form again so he’s always been Hateful for the rest of his life. Even so, Blonsky retains his human memory and self-control after taking the form of Abomination. In addition, Abomination also has gills so it can breathe and fight in the water without the slightest difficulty.
In addition, the power of Abomination will not increase according to the level of anger when fighting like Hulk often does. This is also what then makes Abomination finally quite often defeated by the Hulk even though initially twice as strong as the superhero.
3. Never Fight Hulk Because of Wife Problems
Abomination can be said to have an enormous hatred for the Hulk. That’s what later made him the Hulk’s eternal rival and often fought with superheroes for various reasons. Interestingly, the two turned out to be fighting because of wife problems, you know!
It all started when Bruce Banner aka Hulk met a girl named Nadia who helped him when he was a fugitive in the United States. Banner then spends time with Nadia and has sex with the girl.
Well, it turns out that Nadia is the wife of Emil Blonsky who uses Banner to take revenge on her husband. The reason is, Nadia had experienced domestic violence by Blonsky before being abandoned when she became Abomination. After learning that the Hulk had slept with his wife, Abomination got angry and fought the superhero, though they lost in the end.
4. Become a Homeless Community Leader
As a result of being repeatedly defeated by the Hulk and other Marvel superheroes, Abomination had time to isolate himself from the public realm. He then hid in a ditch in a remote New York area. However, it turns out that Abomination is not alone in the sewers because there are a number of outcasts or homeless people living there as well.
Uniquely, so many homeless people live there, they form a community called The Forgotten. The existence of the Abomination Giant in the sewers also managed to steal the attention of The Forgotten. However, they don’t think of Abomination as a monster, and instead make Marvel villains the leaders of their community.
The community led by Abomination also consists of hundreds of people. Even so, they never committed a crime and lived peacefully in the sewers.
5. More worthy of being called an antihero
As discussed in the previous point, Abomination is the leader of a group of non-criminal homeless people. This is certainly in stark contrast to other Marvel villains who actually form groups for their evil interests. Moreover, Abomination once protected The Forgotten desperately because it was attacked by a group of drug dealers and also the police who considered them criminals.
This heinous act certainly made him far more worthy of being called an antihero than a criminal. You see, Abomination really just hates the Hulk and only wreaks havoc when it comes to the green members of the Avengers. The rest, Abomination arguably very rarely commits criminal acts without a clear reason.
6. There is a Female Version of Abomination
You may already be familiar with the figure of She-Hulk which is arguably the female version of the Hulk. Well, it turns out that Abomination also has a female version in one of the Marvel comics. The female version of Abomination is also called Abominatrix and is one of the main enemies of She-Hulk.
Abominatrix was originally created when a girl named Florence Sharples participated in an experiment related to menstruation. It turned out that the serum used in the experiment contained gamma radiation. As usual, the experiment failed and turned Sharples into a green giant with pointed ears like Abomination.
7. Her appearance in Amazing Hulk protested
If you pay attention, Abomination’s appearance is very different between the comic version and when he appeared in the movie Amazing Hulk. You see, in the comics he has a green body and is equipped with pointed ears. However, in the film version of Abomination, it appears in orange color and the ears are made normal.
Violent appearance in Amazing Hulk had been protested for having removed the pointy ear which became the most iconic body part of the Marvel villain. Louis Leterrier, who directed the film, said that the change in Abomination’s ears was intentional because he thought he could easily be bitten by the Hulk like boxer Mike Tyson did.
Interestingly, the figure of Abomination in the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings instead has the same look as in the comics, from the color to the presence of his iconic ears. In fact, the figure of Abomination is the same version played by Tim Roth in Amazing Hulk. Of course, it would be interesting to know how his appearance could change.
