Prince’s manager sent a cold email to Zooey Deschanel to let her know that Prince wanted a guest role in New Girl.
Serena Williams is a huge Nickelodeon fan Avatars franchise that he appeared in both Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel series, The Legend of Korra. In the former, she voices Ming, a Fire Nation prison guard who is kind to Iroh, and in the latter, she plays the “wise woman.” Ming appears in the Season 3 episode of “The Day of Black Sun: Part 1 – The Invasion,” while the female sage can be found in “Beginnings, Part 1” Season 2.
Lin-Manuel Miranda voiced his support for Brooklyn Nine-Nine when Fox canceled the show, tweeting, “I just watched like 4 things. This is one of them.” After being rescued by NBC, Miranda appeared as Amy Santiago’s perfect older brother, David Santiago, in the Season 6 episode of “The Golden Child.”
Sean Astin is another supporter of Brooklyn Nine-Nine after being almost canceled, which got the attention of co-creator Dan Goor, a huge Astin fan.
Like Miranda, Astin appeared in a Season 6 episode. He played an NYPD cyber operative in “Ticking Clocks.”
Prince’s manager sent a cold email to Zooey Deschanel to let her know that Prince loves New Girl and wants to appear in an episode as himself. At first, Deschanel thought it was a joke, but he soon learned that the email was real. Prince and his band started watching shows while on tour, and they were “really interested in Nick and Jess’ relationship.”
While Deschanel and the rest of the team behind the show were nervous about whether the pop icon would actually appear, Prince followed suit and seemed happy to work with him on set. He appeared in a Season 3 episode titled, aptly enough, “Prince.”
Questlove once said in an interview that, “It’s my fantasy to play a corpse in the Law & Order.” A few months later, SVU actor Ice-T tweeted a photo of him doing just that. Questlove appeared in the Season 15 episode “Criminal Stories.”

Britney Spears adored How I met your mother ibu, so he asked his team to reach out to co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas about a possible guest spot. The cast and crew were nervous that Britney was appearing on the show, as they were afraid “the series will look like it’s relying on celebrities for ratings.”
But they ended up liking the look so much that Spears was asked to reprise her role as Abby, a receptionist with a grudge against Barney. Spears appeared in “Ten Sessions” and “Everything Must Go” Season 3.
Whoopi Goldberg approached Gene Roddenberry when Star Trek: The Next Generation was at the start of the broadcast and told him that he wanted to appear on the show, because before the original Star Trek (1966-1969), there are no blacks in sci-fi. Lieutenant Uhura, “a pioneering role for African Americans on TV,” had inspired Goldberg when he was young.
Unlike other entries on this list, Goldberg’s role as Guinan the bartender is significant and recurring, and he appears in 29 episodes Star Trek: The Next Generation, and in the movie Star Trek Generation and Star Trek: Nemesis.
Kesha gets a call to audition for Virgin Jane on her first day off in three weeks, and though she hesitated to return to work when she should be relaxing, as soon as she found out which show it was, she replied, “Oh yeah, fuck yeah.”
About her audition, Kesha said, “I used to embarrass myself in front of people. I feel like most auditions, at least for comedy, just see how much you want to make yourself. .” Kesha plays Annabelle, Jane, and new-born neighbor Mateo who prioritizes his hard band practice over baby’s sleep schedule. He appeared in the Season 2 episode “Chapter Twenty-Four.”
Jeff Greenberg, casting director for Modern Family, said that Jesse Eisenberg had been “very proactive” about his desire to do the show, and regularly asked his agent to check on possible guest spots. It paid off, and Eisenberg appeared in the Season 5 episode “Under Pressure” as a neighbor who takes environmental friendliness to passive aggressive levels.
Mark Hamill is a huge fan What We Do in the Shadows. He first watched a movie with his son, and then found a TV show, which exceeded his expectations. Hamill apparently has a history of falling in love with shows that were later cancelled, so he’s recommended the comedy to his Twitter followers on several occasions, which has landed him on the creative team’s radar.
Hamill thought he would play “a meter reader, or a next door neighbor, or someone in the Department of Motor Vehicles.” So when he was cast as Jim the Vampire, Laszlo Cravensworth’s nemesis, he “backed off.” Jim ends the episode as an assistant volleyball coach living in a small town in Pennsylvania.
Patrick J. Adams, star of USA Network’s Settings, tweeted in July 2013 that he was “hooked” on Black Orphans. He added “#pleasecanigueststar,” and later that year, his wish came true: Adams played Jesse, a “brave but ordinary man” caught up in a clone drama.
Adams ended up appearing in two episodes: Season 2 “To Hound Nature in Her Wanderings” and Season 3 “History Yet To Be Written.”
Jason Mantzoukas is a Gilmore Girls cultists, so much so that in 2016, he appeared on Gilmore Guys fan podcast five times. So naturally, his cameo appearance is in revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life is a big moment. Mantzoukas plays lawyer Naomi Shropshire in the second episode of “Spring.”
Josh Groban calls himself a “big fan” of the British and American versions of American Office, and said he was “delighted” when he was offered a cameo in the “quirky, funny” sitcom. Groban plays Walter Jr., the younger brother of Andy Bernard Ed Helms. The character appears in two episodes: “Garden Party” Season 8 and “The Boat” Season 9.
Will Ferrell also want to appear in Office, explained, “I’m friends with Steve [Carell] and fans of the show.” Ferrell’s character, Deangelo Vickers, has a storyline that spans four episodes, three of which are Carell’s final episode as Michael Scott.
Michelle Obama chooses to appear as herself in iCarly, partly because her daughter loved the show and they often watched it together. Additionally, the fact that Carly’s father was an Air Force colonel fits well with the “First Lady’s initiative to support military families”.
The Season 5 episode of “iMeet the First Lady” revolves around Carly, Sam, and Freddie having a virtual birthday celebration for Carly’s father after he is unable to see his daughter in person due to an emergency. Michelle Obama saw the webcast and showed up in their studio to tell them how impressed and touched she was by the move. He later agreed to appear on an episode of the web show, where he played the rousing game “Is Gibby Wearing a Hat or Criticizing Hamsters?”
